Living on a Prayer - C9

Class 9 performing 'Living on a Prayer'

'Living on a Prayer'

Class 10 performing 'Living on a Prayer'

"I like learning songs in Music lessons because they are really varied and we get to learn about many different styles of music. Mrs Bowyer always says there is no such thing as 'I can't' and this helps me to be brave and try to accomplish things, not just in Music but in lots of other areas too." - Katie, Class 12

In Year 5, pupils have weekly hour-long Music lessons each term, which are taught by Mrs Bowyer, our Music teacher from Resonate Music Hub. Pupils complete topics based around a variety of different music genres including: Rock, Motown, Rap and Ballads. As well as learning to appreciate and understand these genres, pupils learn and perform a range of different songs in each genre, both through singing and playing the ukulele and glockenspiel, and compose music using the key style indicators of the genre.

Pupils also have the chance in Year 5 to continue to learn the ukulele, as we host a weekly lunchtime Ukulele Club. This allows pupils to advance on the instrument and continue to improve their skills, as well as providing extra performance opportunities in our school concerts. In addition, pupils also get the chance to watch a performance from the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and take part in a Samba drumming workshop as a part of their Brazil Geography topic.
