Enriching Experiences

The Liver Building

During this term, Year 4 were asked to showcase their artistic knowledge and skills by drawing The Liver Building. To help them succeed, we took a trip to the Pier Head to appreciate the iconic building in all of it's glory. The weather was on our side with the sun appearing to help us add some light and shade to our drawings.

Drawing, Shading and Sketching Skills

By working with our professional artist, Becky, pupils were able gain insights into some of the different drawing, shading and sketching skills that can be used when working with pencils, graphite and pastels, including how to use contrasting colours for shading. Receiving expert guildance really gave the pupils confidence to experiment with different techniques and colour choices in their drawing and sketches.

'Learning from a professional artist it brilliant because they can show us how to use different techniques and seeing how they do it made me more confident when it was our turn to draw different objects.' - Albie K, Class 5

Antoni Gaudi Lizards

Working with a professional artist to create Gaudi inspired lizards was an enriching experience for children. Not only were they able to receive expert knowledge and guidance in how to create their sculptures, but also they were given the confidence to express their individual creativity when making artistic choices for their unique designs. This was an excellent opportunity for children to make connections in their learning and enhance their understanding of Gaudi's influence on the architecture of Barcelona.

World Book Day - We Are Writers

In preparation for World Book Day and the publication of this year's We Are Writers books, children visited our local library to emplore the artwork used for different book covers. This was an enriching way for children to learn about the layout, composition and different styles used in a wide variey of book covers in different genres of writing. This helped to provide children with ideas for creating their own book covers designs for our infamous 'We Are Writers' books.

Chinese New Year

Learning about the animals of the Chinese zodiac and tangram puzzles certainly helped to enrich pupils cultural understanding and experiece of the celebrations and customs surrounding Chinese New Year.
