British Science Week 2023: Connections

As we celebrate togetherness, after a period where isolation was a sad but necessary reality, ‘Connections’ was an apt theme for British Science Week 2023.

Nearly all innovations in science, technology, engineering and maths are built on connections between people; two (or more) heads are better than one, after all! But as well as exploring the importance and joy in connections between individual scientists, research groups and institutions, you could discover the different ways connections appear across all areas of science. Evolution, for example, shows us the ways that animals, including humans, as well as well, plants and bacteria are all connected in a family tree stretching back millennia.

British Science Week 2022: Growth

For this year's British Science Week, our children have taken part in a variety of activities and designed their own posters for the British Science Association's poster competition. This year's theme was all about Growth - we have been discovering many different forms of growth from living things to changes in technology over time.

Our children have also experienced a Live Lesson run by the Science Farm, learning about the life cycles and growth of various animals.

British Science Week 2021: Innovating for the Future

Our children have enjoyed celebrating British Science Week, learning all about this year's theme, innovating for the future! They have learnt about what innovation is and some important innovations that have changed the world. Year 4 were even lucky enough to take part in a Zoom virtual workshop, learning about some incredible innovations from the invention of the wheel to Covid-19 vaccines!

Our children have also had a go at becoming innovators themselves, designing their own RoboBugs to suit a particular role, from search and rescue bugs to builder bugs! They learnt about some incredible innovations that have been created in 2021 such as floating farms, 3D printed food and even smart face masks!

We have had some wonderful entries into the British Science Association's poster competition from a recycling sorting machine to a remote controlled robot dog! See some of our wonderful posters below.
