22/10/2019 - Talent ID trip to Blue Coat School Science Ceilidh

Talent ID trip to Blue Coat School Science Ceilidh

Years 4 and 5 had a fantastic morning at the Blue Coat school putting their Science and Music knowledge to the test! We began the morning by listening to some wonderful music played on the organ by one of the school's A Level music students - we even heard some of the Star Wars theme tune! We then learned about the Science of how the organ works through an exciting demonstration from one of Blue Coat's resident Science teachers. We even had a go at blowing into some of the organ pipes to create a sound through vibrations!

Finally, we finished the morning with the Science Ceilidh, combining our Science knowledge with music and dance to make a creative representation of how the organ creates sound, accompanied by a professional violinist. We learned about what our brain's look like and how they allow us to hear sounds. We hope to be back at Blue Coat soon for more wonderful workshops! Here is what our children had to say about the experience:

'I enjoyed learning about the brain and finding out about what a healthy brain looks like'

Ava Delahunty Y5

'I enjoyed learning about how we hear sound from an organ through dance because I love being creative'

Caitlyn Carragher-Leigh Y5

'I enjoyed learning about the size of the human brain and how we hear sounds. I loved modelling how we hear sound from an organ through dance!'
