We are delighted with our link school in Sierra Leone. is called the New Life Christian Preparatory School Waterloo. Year 5 will be working closely with our partner school in Sierra Leone this year as we have some exciting collaborative projects planned. 

2022- 2023 Collaborative Projects

Autumn 

• Introducing New Life Christian Hope School to the Year 5 children. They will be shown a video message from the New Hope children, introducing themselves and giving a tour of their school. The video will represent a typical day in their school. They will also send a video, in return, introducing St Francis de Sales Links through Art - Year 5 will complete an art study on famous African art or artists. They will study styles, techniques and colours.

Spring

• Link with Geography - Children explore the human and physical geography of Sierra Leone and compare and contrast the findings with our own city location. This will also present a good opportunity for children to explore the economy, culture and traditions of the country too. Building on the questions of the economy of the location of New Hope, children will develop their understanding of different economies in different countries. They will have an empathetic view towards children living in areas of poverty. They will understand the impact of working together as a community to help those less fortunate and recognise the emerging needs of children in areas of need.

Summer

• Link with Music- Children will complete a study of traditional African music. They may choose to focus on a style or person.This will link with International Music week. Children will develop a further understanding of their peers as they explore the culture of music in Sierra Leone. They will be inspired by the different sounds, styles and compositions of Music from an African origin.
