Mary Shelley ( a Study of and Biography by C13)
For Literacy this year , the children in Class 13 have been studying the Gothic novel ' Frankenstein' and have learnt much in the process about its author - Mary Shelley. As a class we studied various excerpts from this great piece of English literature, even comparing some of its contents to other acclaimed and distinguished Gothic novels such as- ' Jeckyll and Hyde'. In order to understand the content and influences behind the novel, the children studied the life of Mary; her family and friendship influences; the society in which she lived in and the scientific experiments which were taking place at the time, which had a huge impact upon her writing.
Significantly, we also looked at other influences behind her writing such as the impact of the French Revolution. We studied the modern day interpretations of this great novel and even looked at how science today draws parallels to the predictions that Mary made.
Class 13 loved this study and subsequently produced superb and analytical pieces of writing about Mary. Well done Class 13. You should be very proud of yourselves!
