Impact: Debating Success

At St. Francis de Sales, we value the importance of debating. This is evident in our English planning as every year group participates in 'SFDS Debate Week' in the Autumn term. All pupils have the opportunity to explore debating skills and to write and perform for either the 'Proposition' or the 'Opposition' team when debating unseen motions. At the end of the week, both Lower School and Upper School Debate competitions take place in our school hall!

In addition to lessons in class, a variety of pupils from both Year 5 and Year 6 have the opportunity to participate in an after-school club we run in partnership with 'Debate Academy'.

Our debating teams thrive from working with Jack and Helen from 'Debate Academy'. Their hard work and dedication leads to prestigious competitions against other primary school teams. Our pupils have recently won all three of their debates in a competition against two schools from South Liverpool!

Members of our 'Debate Academy' team have represented our school in a national debating competition. They faced tough competition from a range of private schools in London during their heat. Victoriously, our team won and should feel very proud of this achievement!
