Military School UK: Leadership & Collaboration
Today, the second half of our Year 6 cohort enjoyed a Military School session focused upon leadership, collaboration, resilience and analytical skills. The children had to construct a design which would allow water to get from one place to another. Could they work cohesively to do it quickly? Could they manage clashes in personality? Could they lead and listen? These were questions that the children encountered as they went about their task.
Both teams impressed with their ability to cope with the demands of the task; however, their attempts were not always perfect! They had to look at the flaws in their design and think about why the flaw occurred. Was it a construction problem? Did that problem arise from a lack of communication? Poor planning? At the end, our pupils demonstrated true SFDS resilience and some amazing communication skills were on show.
Importantly, when the activity had finished, the children watched footage of themselves completing the task and were tasked with looking for ways to improve their performance, even after they had succeeded - a crucial element of becoming a lifelong learner. True learning outside the classroom!
