A message from Milly

"Hello! My name is Milly. I had an idea to help the homeless. 

This idea came to me because of my auntie and uncle who work with the homeless at Liverpool City Mission, they run a choir and at an event over Christmas they told us that one of the homeless men had been missing, and they found out he had died because of the cold.  I was thinking how lucky I was to have a warm home and how some people are living on the streets and sleeping in the cold.  I asked Mrs. Ainscough if we could do something to help the homeless and we came up with the idea of “Feast Day Gift Bags”.   We asked the children to bring in hats, scarves, gloves and toiletries which would help the homeless.  On 24th January, our school Feast Day, when I saw all the bags together it made me feel really happy.   I have learnt that when we work together we can make a big change to our world."

What a wonderful day it was! There was excitement from the outset as the children arrived for their first Own Clothes Day in a long, long time. Whilst everyone looked smart, it was left to Jay-Lee of Class 12 to steal the show in his three-piece suit! Needless to say, Mr Reidel was impressed with his style!

After all that commotion, it was important to remember that it was St. Francis de Sales Feast Day, where we celebrate the life and achievements of our Patron Saint.

The morning culminated with a special Mass to celebrate the day. A special mention must go out to all of the readers, who represented their school and their classes superbly.

As the day came to an end, it was time for the children to enjoy their sweets and put a film on… a well-deserved treat!

A very, very special thanks must go out to every child/parent/guardian who contributed a gift bag to City Mission and the homeless in our city. It was inspiring to see the children so excited about giving things to those less fortunate than themselves. Needless to say, those people receiving the gifts will be delighted and grateful. The children should be really proud of the contribution that they have made today – well done everyone!
