As part of our weekly mandarin lessons, this week we were lucky enough to be able to do some writing in mandarin! Our mandarin teacher, Miss Wu, started the lesson by showing us the different stages of creating a chinese character.

We learned about the four ways of creating a character: pictographic, combinational, mark and shape.

We then learned how to hold a brush and all about the different strokes we needed to make. 

The three basic rules for writing each character are:

• from top to bottom
• from left to right
• inside then outside

We used special paper and ink to create our mandarin writing. We are looking forward to learning more about writing in mandarin next week!
