09/03/2018 - Museum of Science and Industry Trip

Today, Year 5, along with the Manchester Muslim Prep School, were amazed by their visit to the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. The trip, which was inspired by our current ‘Materials’ unit of work, was enjoyed by all and featured explosions, product design, fire and even a Sensational Space Show!

Meeting with the Manchester Muslim Prep School:

In addition to our 97 Year 5 pupils who attended the trip, we were also joined by 9 pupils from the Manchester Muslim Prep School. It was great to catch-up again and we all enjoyed exploring the vast museum together. The interactive Experiments floor was a good opportunity for us all to work together to solve different scientific problems. We even managed to work as a team to lift a car into the air!

Explosions Workshop:

A firm favourite of the day was the Explosions Show. Discovering that certain materials can undergo reversible and irreversible changes is going to be key in our work going forward, so the performance by the museum staff was greatly appreciated by all. Excitedly, Year 5 witnessed explosions and other scientific marvels before their very eyes and we even played a crucial role in reprimanding suspects behind the Manchester Mills Explosion!
