06/06/2018 - Multiplication - Scaling
In maths, we explored how our multiplication knowledge can help with scaling word problems.
Using a variety of coloured bricks, we created a basic Lego model. Once we had created this model, we counted how many of each coloured brick were used. From this, we were able to use our multiplication knowledge to calculate how many bricks we would need to create our model 6 more times.
Example
Brendan’s model contained:
2 yellow bricks
3 blue bricks
4 white bricks
Coloured bricks |
How many needed for 6 models? |
yellow |
12 |
blue |
18 |
white |
24 |
As a challenge, Brendan was then able to work out how many individual bricks were needed for all 6 models.
This was a great way to perfect our multiplication skills!
