Peppermint Creams: An After Dinner Treat!
Today, we had the pleasure of making after dinner treats: Peppermint Creams! Firstly we broke the egg and separated the white from the yolk – we found this very tricky indeed, as the yolk kept breaking. We used a small sieve to help us by placing the contents of the egg into the sieve and letting the clear liquid drain through. We then placed the egg into our hands and let the white drain through our fingers – very slimy! Using a whisk, we whisked the egg white until it was foamy.
Secondly, we measured 250g of icing sugar into the bowl and mixed this together with the egg white, adding lemon extract, peppermint extract and a drop of green food colouring. We mixed these together with a wooden spoon. Some children found that their mixture was too dry so we had to add more wet ingredients.
We then spread some icing sugar onto the table and rolled out the mix until it was 1cm thick. We then used shape cutters to cut shapes such as; hearts, flowers and circles.
Finally, we left them to dry for about an hour before placing them carefully into the 3D hexagonal prism box that we made from a 2D net, decorated and glued together.
