SFDS History Textile Project

Recently, some children from Years 5 and 6 were chosen to work on a special art/history project with Becky - our resident artist. I didn't have much experience with textiles so I was unsure what would be involved. Firstly, we designed banners using a collection of photos we have recently discovered. We worked hard to make the girls’ tartan and the school councillor tie.

The last banner to make was the school badge: this was very difficult because we had to wait for the first coat of paint to dry. To keep a straight line, Becky showed us how to use tape and carefully place it on the fabric so the wet paint would not smudge. This tape was not any old tape; this tape was called Frog Tape, which made all of the lines perfectly straight.

Hopefully, everybody likes our outstanding banners which will hang proudly for many years to come on the Year 6 staircase. We hope that our artistic designs will give everybody an insight into the fascinating history of our wonderful school. (Lily U)
