School Band

In addition to all pupils in school learning ukulele and being able to play glockenspiel and percussion instruments in their curriculum Music lessons, they are given the opportunity to learn a woodwind, brass or string instrument in school. Children who take advantage of this opportunity receive weekly free peripatetic lessons from our instrument teachers Mrs. Rowlands (woodwind), Mr. Roberts (brass) and Miss Parkes (violin). Children who receive these lessons are also able to join our school band, giving them the chance to perform as part of a large group ensemble.

The band is led by Mrs Rowlands and practise once a week, learning a range of songs; from classical pieces by famous composers such as Mozart, to modern day, recognisable songs from film and television. Pupils in band also have the opportunity to participate in other small ensemble groups, such as brass group and saxophone group, and also perform solos. There are many performance events throughout the school year, such as:

  • School Concerts
  • Annual Epstein performance
  • Wirral Music Festival
  • Concerts at Archbishop Beck
  • Training days at University of Liverpool
