Poetry Performances

The impact of our 'SFDS Oracy Progression Ladder' being put into practice across all year groups can be seen when our pupils take part in poetry performances. 

As part our Writing planning, we have topics dedicated to poetry with opportunities to perform poems. From poems written by significant poets to original poems written by the pupils themselves, our pupils enjoy performing a variety of poetry types!

Perhaps the most exciting experience of performing poems at SFDS occurs when we hold our annual 'SFDS Poetry Slam'. All pupils write their own poems for the latest 'We Are Writers' book that we purchase for every child. These books are presented for free to every child in the school on 'World Book Day' to celebrate them all becoming published poets. Pupils then have the opportunity to represent their classes by performing their poems in the school hall during our Poetry Slam.
