27/09/2018 - Latin Work: Where did the English language come from?
During vocabulary sessions, we have discovered some interesting facts about the Romans (which links in to our History topic!). Did you know that they brought their language, Latin, with them when they invaded Britain? We found out that some Latin words are still used today as root words in our English language.
Year 4 found out what some of these Latin words are and then investigated how we use them in our language today. For example...
magn = large/great
(magnify and magnificent)
aqua = water
(aquatic and aquarium)
circ = round
(circle and circus)
As a homework challenge, Year 4 pupils are welcome to research other Latin words and to find out how they are still used by us today.
