Class 15 exploring the joys of woodwork at Alsop High School!

Design Technology morning at Alsop High School
This morning, year 6 had the opportunity to attend Alsop High School and take part in a resistant materials lesson. The lesson began by learning the health and safety rules when inside a design technology laboratory and then went on to look at all the different pieces of equipment they can use. This was very useful for all the pupils to prepare them for when they go to high school and take part in these lessons.
After this, it was time for us all to start the practical activities. The challenge this morning was to make a pencil holder out of wood. The children were given a block of wood and the teacher demonstrated each part of the process in order to make the pencil holder. It was then down to the pupils to get to work.
Pupils worked independently to use a steel ruler, tenson saw, coping saw, tri-cutters, vices and drills. It was a great morning and all the pupils showed excellent independence, focus and determination when using the new pieces of equipment to make their pencil holder.
Thank you to Alsop for such an enjoyable morning!
