Year 3 Oracy Task: My Favourite Author

Authors are people who create imaginary worlds for us to enjoy and become a part of. With our excellent school library, you have access to some of the most influential authors throughout history. From non-fiction to fiction, there is sure to be an author you would love (if you don’t have one already!). In celebration of our dedication to reading, we want to celebrate authors who have inspired and had an impact on your reading choices.

Your task is to create a presentation (at least 3 minutes long) which celebrates your chosen author. For example, it could be Roald Dahl; Frank Coltrell Boyce; C.S Lewis; Lewis Carroll; Charles Dickens… the list could go on and on.

There are no other rules- it is your presentation, so be creative!

You could talk about:

  • Early life (Where were they born? Family? Education?)
  • Achievements (How many books written? Are their books used in schools? Awards?)
  • How they have helped you foster a love of reading.

You can use a powerpoint presentation, props (images, books, objects etc) or cue cards to help you deliver your presentation. We do not want you just reading from a piece of paper- we would like you to focus on your oracy skills.

Top tips:

  • Speaking in a loud, clear voice
  • Speaking enthusiastically to keep your audience engaged
  • Making your presentation memorable
  • Having eye contact with your audience

You can use books, internet and some of your own research to help you with your presentation. If needed, you can use the schools iPads at lunch time.

Why not ask your parents for some help too? They can help you to prepare your presentation and you can practise in front of your family.

Presentations will take place on Friday 9th November 2018
