Western Approaches:

"I absolutely loved the trip to Western Approaches. We took part in a tour and problem-solving activities that have inspired me to learn more about the Battle of the Atlantic! I can't wait to write my information report next week!"

There are few trips that are capable of providing children with the experience that some of our Year 6 pupils encountered today. Very few museum visits enable you to stand in the same room where the future of the world was changed forever. Very few school trips s give you the chance to explore rooms where one of the greatest Britons to ever live (Winston Churchill) once roamed.

Our trip to the hidden gem that is Derby House presented us with this opportunity. We took a genuine step back into history and explored the rooms where the Second World War was won. We glimpsed top secret documents, machines that monitored enemy convoys and even saw the phone that connected straight to Churchill's famous War Rooms in London - one of only two surviving wartime phones, which had this direct line!

Is there any greater inspiration for our upcoming writing?
