01/12/2017 - Frank Cottrell Boyce Visit

Official Library Opening

Have you heard about the brand new school library at SFDS? After months of planning and preparation, we have now officially opened a whole school library, which is already proving to be a fantastically calming and relaxing space to sit back in and enjoy a great book! Whenever a pupil needs to change their home reading book, they can now head to the library and choose from a wide range of quality texts.

To mark the occasion, we were honoured to welcome an esteemed children’s author, Frank Cottrell Boyce, to school to officially open the library. Along with this, Frank enjoyed spending some time with our pupil librarians over tea, juice (and of course, cake!). Our librarians then presented Frank with copies of our two whole school books that we have had published and he is going to take these home and read our pupils' stories!

Not only this, but Frank also met the whole school over two assemblies and was very impressed with the quality of questioning skills that he was met with by our pupils. Our children listened intently as Frank then read out extracts from two of his books (‘Millions’ and ‘Sputnik’).

At the moment, Frank Cottrell Boyce is in the middle of writing a story about a robot. During his visit around our school, he was amazed to bump into our huge ‘Iron Man’ statue (created by the pupils). He said that seeing it had inspired him to get the book finished once he returned home! We shall look forward to reading that book in the future.
