Fishing the Mind
Our children in years 5 and 6 take part in Fishing Workshops in school where the experts from FtM explain more about the skills involved and how to look after the fish that are caught and then put back.
Our children have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic about fishing and are keen to do it again in school and with their families. They have come to understand and enjoy an activity they can do independently, with friends and family, and throughout their life.
This teaches our children skills and attributes they would not normally have the chance to learn and develop, as well as a respect for nature and living things. For example:
- Resilience
- Patience
- Team work
- Respect and appreciation for nature and living things
- Appreciation of the outdoors and time away from tablets and screens
- Time to think and ponder
- Learn to relax
- Taking care of living things
- Fishing skills
