Remote Learning

Our Remote Learning Approach

When necessary, remote education will align closely with our in-school curriculum, following the same sequence of learning, subject coverage and expected outcomes. Teachers will provide clear explanations, opportunities for practice and feedback and ensure that pupils can continue to make progress from home. This may include a blend of:

  • Digital learning platforms (e.g., Google Classroom) in the event of school closures.

  • Printable or written resources.

Curriculum Continuity

If needed, remote curriculum will reflect the breadth and ambition of in-school learning. Tasks will be designed to consolidate prior knowledge and introduce new concepts in small, manageable steps. Feedback will be given regularly to guide pupils’ progress and address misconceptions.

Pupil Engagement and Feedback

Pupil participation in remote learning will be monitored daily. Teachers and support staff will check engagement through submitted work, online interactions or communication with families. Constructive feedback will be provided through digital platforms, phone calls or written comments to support continued learning.

Access and Support

We recognise that not all pupils have equal access to devices or internet connectivity. Where necessary, the school will:

  • Provide printed learning packs

  • Support families with internet access or alternative resources

  • Offer regular communication to ensure all pupils can engage with learning

Support for Pupils with SEND

Remote education for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) will be adapted to meet individual needs, as outlined in their support plans. Teachers will liaise with the SENDCo and families to ensure reasonable adjustments are made and that targeted support continues.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

All safeguarding and online safety protocols apply equally to remote education. Pupils, parents and staff are reminded of the school’s safeguarding policy, acceptable use policy, and code of conduct when engaging in online learning. Pastoral and wellbeing support will continue through regular check-ins and access to trusted adults in school.

Communication with Families

Clear information and expectations about remote learning will be communicated through the school website, newsletters and direct contact. Parents and carers will receive guidance on supporting learning at home, maintaining routines and ensuring online safety.

Review and Evaluation

This statement is reviewed annually or following any major update in DfE guidance to ensure that our remote learning provision remains effective, inclusive, and responsive to pupil needs.
