Remote Learning - Reading Curriculum

Our Reading Remote Learning provides high quality online lessons and activities for our pupils that mirror in-school learning laid out in our curriculum planning:

  • ensuring pupils receive clear explanations
  • supporting growth in confidence with new material through scaffolded practice
  • allowing for application of new knowledge or skills
  • enabling pupils to receive feedback on how to progress

Our Remote Learning Reading maintains as many features of school life as possible, including the amount of lessons, level of challenge and differentiation when needed.

Daily Lessons

Pupil Read and Comprehension

Monday, Wednesday and Friday's lessons focus on developing the pupil's ability to read fluently and apply a range of comprehension strategies. This is provided through our two online learning platforms Reading Plus and Reading Wise. Both programmes offer tailored support to individual pupils.

The Reading Plus or Reading Wise tasks are set on Google classroom. Each task outlines clear expectations for pupils and directs them to the preferred learning platform. Teachers remotely access the platforms daily to check pupil’s progress and send feedback through Google Classroom, celebrating achievements and giving tips on how to progress further.

Story Sessions

Tuesday and Thursday’s Story Sessions, which focus on pleasure for reading, are also set as tasks on Google Classroom. In these sessions, teachers read and explore their current class novel. We aim to provide an engaging lesson where pupils are immersed in the book bringing it to life. After listening to the extract, pupils answer key questions to delve deeper into the story. Teacher's provide feedback for each task.
