As part of their Mandarin classes, Year 3 children have been learning how to play a traditional Chinese game called Jianzi. The aim of the game is to keep the weighted shuttlecocks off the floor using any part of the body to do so. The pupils also practised their number skills by counting their repetitions in Mandarin.
Our Mandarin teacher, Yu, also told us about the history of the game. Did you know that the game first started almost 2000 years ago during the Han dynasty in China. However, nowadays it has become a popular game with children, adults who often play competitively as well as skilled players who show off their latest tricks for an audience.
