On Friday 28th June, the children of St Francis de Sales enjoyed the fruition of their hard work and determination to give two Victoria Cross recipient soldiers: Private William Patrick Mylott VC and Private Joseph Prosser VC the recognition and honour they deserve in a special ceremony unveiling two headstones.
In 2018, our Year 6 pupils collaborated with the Friends of Anfield Cemetery as part of their local history studies. They learned that there were two forgotten heroes, VC winners, buried in unmarked paupers’ graves in the cemetery. Needless to say, they were shaken to the core at this tragic injustice.
Working with Bob Halliday, Tom Bradburn and Bill Sergeant, the children were determined to give these great men the recognition they deserve for serving our country so courageously for the benefit of future generations.
The ceremony was a momentous occasion for our school and the children performed with the upmost skill and dignity, which greatly impressed all those in attendance- well done!
